Call for papers - Disease Ecology

Diseases have gained significant importance in wildlife ecology and management in recent years. Chronic wasting disease (CWD), a fatal prion disease in cervids that has been known in North America for some time, has recently been found also in Norway and South Korea, where wildlife managers fight its further expansion. African swine feaver, a deadly viral disease of wild boar and pigs is a major threat to the European pig industry. Ticks are expanding their range favoured by climate change, which is likely to increase the risk of Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases in wildlife. Birds often have parasites or are affected by viruses or vector-borne diseases, like the bird flu (often transferred to domestic relatives).  All these diseases may also affect humans and their livestock and have drastic health and economic consequences.

To contribute to a scientific knowledge base for the management of wildlife diseases, Wildlife Biology is planning to publish a special issue. The special issue on Disease Ecology is inviting contributions with a focus on the ecology and / or management of diseases in wildlife populations or communities.

If you are in doubt about the thematic fit of your paper, you may send a proposal to EiC Ilse Storch (ilse [dot] storch [at] wildlife [dot] uni-freiburg [dot] de). Full article submission is expected by 30 November 2023.
